Conductor Stefan Lano knew how to scrutinize the rich palette of orchestral colors and textures of this score, creating atmospheres and moods with a refined sense for theater. His rendition- calibrated and precise - provided the singers with an accompaniment of such naturalness that the orchestra and stage truly seemed to be breathing in harmony. The nuances of the singers received in kind, their responses from the Orchestra of the Teatro Argentino which played with a beauty of sound both full and romantic, particularly in the upper registers of the strings.
In synthesis: an Onegin of high musical merit, but which scenically did not achieve a coherent and forceful vision of the work.
